PerfectIt: a no-painer explainer

The relentlessly helpful blog

18 April 2017

Here’s a quick intro to my favourite editorial tool, the PerfectIt add-in for Microsoft Word, by Intelligent Editing.

Unlike plain old spellcheck, PerfectIt performs a series of consistency checks to make sure your documents are as sharp as possible. I know dozens of professional editors who use PerfectIt as part of their regular editing routine, and it’s just about the only editorial tool that I’m happy to endorse.

Right now (early 2017), the software works only on the Windows version of Word, but a ‘cloud’ version is planned for later in the year, at which point Mac users will be able to join in the fun.

The software’s not free, but at $99 it won’t break the bank. (SfEP members get a discount.) As far as I’m concerned, this one’s paid for itself several times over.

Over to you

Have you tried PerfectIt? What do you think? What other editorial tools would you recommend? Let me know by leaving a comment below or by catching up with me on Twitter. I’d love to hear from you.
