Consistency is good. We don’t have enough of it in our businesses. But leave space for surprise and delight. A splash of pink goes well with all that white paint.

Although I think consistency is a good thing and that our businesses all need more of it, there’s probably some danger in being remorselessly uniform and entirely predictable. If you really operated in a completely cookie-cutter fashion, your people would all sound identical and devoid of any individuality. It’s the equivalent of turning your business into a vending machine, and that doesn’t feel right.
